Meth is a particularly nasty stimulant that’s very easy to develop an addiction to. Meth is known to rot teeth, destroy brain matter, and cause permanent cognitive decline in users regardless of circumstances. The drug can take a couple of different forms and be snorted, smoked, eaten, or injected. Most meth users smoke the drug, and each method has a different bell curve on the length and the strength of the high.
Meth works by releasing massive amounts of dopamine in the brain and triggering pleasure in the user. Your brain responds to this by working quickly in its euphoric state. Because meth can destroy certain cells in the brain, users can experience several Alzheimer’s-like symptoms in addition to being at a higher chance of developing Parkinson’s.
Simultaneously triggering epinephrine and norepinephrine, these produce dangerous effects like increased heart rate and blood pressure. Most drug sessions for meth users consist of binging the drug for days a time, during which the user will go without food and sleep.
Meth use in Connecticut is relatively low compared to other states, however, the amount is still non-zero. The highest-using age group is 18- to 25-year-olds at 0.43%. 0.39% of those over the age of 17 have used meth in the last year.
