Opioid Use Disorder Treatment

Opioid Rehab

Landmark Recovery of Denver proudly offers evidence-based therapies and detox services at our safe and secure opioid addiction treatment center. While we start with detox, detoxing from opioids is not treating your addiction. At Landmark, we want to help you to re-enter and navigate the world – without opioids – by equipping you with the tools you need to pursue long-term sobriety.

What is opioid use disorder (OUD)?

When opioids are abused, or used without a medical purpose, an individual can feel a sense of euphoria. This occurs because all opioids are chemically related and interact with opioid receptors on nerve cells in the body and brain.1 An individual who becomes tolerant to the opioid will experience cravings and further abuse the opioids to achieve the same “high,” but also to prevent opioid withdrawal symptoms. The result is a continuous cycle of abuse, and ultimately an opioid addiction, also known as an opioid use disorder (OUD).

An opioid use disorder is likely if an individual is using drugs compulsively, spending substantial amounts of time searching for more opioids in order to get high, and if the opioids are impairing their social and professional responsibilities and physical and mental health. However, to be diagnosed officially with an opioid use disorder, an individual must meet a certain set of criteria when screened by a doctor.2

Recognize Signs of An Opioid Overdose

The greatest risk of using opioids is overdosing. Reduced breathing is often the culprit of opioid deaths because it can significantly reduce the amount of oxygen to the brain and other vital organs like the heart and lungs.3 Obvious signs of an overdose include:

  • Frequent vomiting
  • Pinpointed pupils
  • Extreme sleepiness or inability to wake-up
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Confusion or delirium
  • Breathing problems
  • Respiratory arrest (not breathing)
  • Cold, clammy skin or bluish skin around the lips or under the fingernails

An individual who is experiencing an overdose needs immediate medical attention. Administering Naloxone, if available, offer the individual the best chance of survival, aside from calling 9-1-1; it can be given as a nasal spray or injected into a muscle, under the skin, or into the veins.4

What to Expect at Landmark Recovery

At Landmark, our rehab treatment follows the full continuum of care. The first step in your recovery will be to immediately stop your opioid use and prepare your body and mind for rehabilitation through detox to flush out all traces of drugs and toxins from your system.

Following detox, you will be transitioned into a treatment program that has been tailored to meet your specific needs. We offer residential, partial hospitalization, and outpatient treatment. Your treatment might also include medication-assisted treatment to help you safely taper off your opioid use. Behavioral therapy will help identify the underlying causes of your opioid addiction and teach you healthy behaviors and coping mechanisms that are needed to resist future urges and prevent relapse.

After completing rehab, you will have access to our fully integrated support network so that you can continue recovery with the support necessary to achieve success. Our alumni program includes a discharge plan, a recovery coach assigned to you, and access to monthly alumni symposiums and twice-weekly SMART Recovery meetings, and weekly 12 step meetings. The relationships you form during treatment will continue to provide you with support and help you stay committed to your recovery.
