-Jamie C.
"It is because of the love, care, and acceptance I experienced with Landmark Recovery that I chose to come back as an employee and start my education and career in the recovery field. Sobriety has given me so much to look forward to when before the future looked so bleak!"

Before the opioid epidemic, more Ohioans were being killed by traffic accidents than substance abuse. Today, more death certificates are issued for deaths by overdose than road accidents. Drug and alcohol addiction doesn’t discriminate, and its effects are far-reaching. Cleveland, Ohio has been particularly hit hard by the opioid crisis.
The only way we can tackle the opioid epidemic is through effective drug and alcohol rehab like what Praxis strives to provide to every patient. Addiction is treatable, but most individuals in Ohio don’t seek it and will never contact a drug rehab or alcohol treatment center—be the difference and contact Praxis of the Firelands today.
Praxis of the Firelands by Landmark Recovery is one of the most affordable drug and alcohol rehab centers in Ohio. We strive to make addiction recovery affordable and attainable to anyone who needs it, which is why we began our Praxis treatment centers for Medicaid patients. The cost of medical detox and rehab varies from person to person. Treatment plans, medications, levels of care and insurance coverage all play a factor in determining how much addiction recovery could cost.
Some people delay addiction treatment because they believe it’s too expensive. But the costs associated with an untreated addiction far outweigh the cost of a recovery center. The cost of drugs and alcohol used by someone with an addiction typically surpasses the price of treatment for substance abuse. There are also emotional and physical costs, including health problems, broken relationships and poor self-image that often accompany an addiction. While detox and rehab are an investment, they pay off. Sobriety leads to a better life.

If we’re going to treat people in this country who suffer from substance use disorders, then one of our goals should be to make addiction treatment as affordable as possible. Cars and houses are wildly expensive, but getting the right addiction treatment is priceless. No matter what the cost is, we've taken it upon ourselves to make affordable treatment available for those who need it. We're also extremely proud to accept Medicaid treatment through our Praxis locations across the Midwest and beyond.
Treating alcohol and drug addiction in the state of Ohio is just as important as it is everywhere else in the US. In 2007, unintentional drug poisoning became the leading cause of injury death in Ohio, surpassing motor vehicle crashes for the first time on record; this trend has continued and hasn’t let up. We believe this gives us the imperative to expand treatment to those who need it in the state, but to also treat patients with the most effective treatment possible.
Alcohol is the most abused substance in the state of Ohio. According to SAMHSA, 11.33% of all Ohio citizens suffer from an Alcohol Use Disorder, and 10.55% of those who have an AUD don’t receive the help they need. Just under 25% of Ohian adults reported binge drinking in the last month. Binge drinking, when accompanied by excessive consumption, can cause long-lasting, negative health effects.
Marijuana is one of the most widely used substances in Ohio, second only to alcohol. According to SAMHSA, 17.97% of adults used marijuana at least once in the last year, with the highest-using group the 18-to-25-year-olds, of which 35.67% having used marijuana once in the past year. With such high numbers, we can expect that around 9% of these marijuana users will develop a dependence on the substance, meaning that they will require some kind of treatment for marijuana use disorder.
According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, Ohio had the second-highest rate of opioid overdose deaths in the US in 2017 at 39.2 deaths for every 100,000 people. Fighting heroin and opioid addiction is necessary in high-overdose states.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, Fentanyl was involved in 82% of all heroin-related overdose deaths, 77% of all cocaine-related overdose deaths, and 72% of all psychostimulant/methamphetamine-related overdose deaths in 2019. Beating back the tide of opioids is an imperative that Landmark Recovery takes seriously, as Ohio is one state that’s been hit hard with them.
According to SAMHSA, just over 2% of the state’s population have used cocaine in the past year. Cocaine, once the biggest drug threat in Ohio, has slipped down to a lesser-used status, but it remains one of the most dangerous substances of choice. Despite the fact that cocaine has become less popular, Landmark Recovery is committed to helping those with cocaine use disorders get their lives back on track.
Meth is a psychostimulant that causes severe health effects. With less than 1% of the state’s population having used it in the past year, meth represents a small percent of illicit drug use in the state. Despite the fact that meth use is relatively low in Ohio, meth addiction is still an important substance use disorder we need to tackle together.
No matter what substance you use, be it drugs or alcohol, detox from long-term addiction can be a hard road. Praxis of the Firelands provides safe, medically sound detox treatment that will manage your withdrawal and start you on the road to recovery.
Learn more about Medical DetoxFor many individuals, detox represents the most difficult stage of the recovery journey. This is because as addictive substances are being flushed out of the body, the brain typically goes into withdrawal as it adjusts to normal functioning without the presence of drugs or alcohol. Depending on the substance of abuse and length and severity of addiction, you can experience a range of unpleasant withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking or using drugs.
