There are many ways to utilize recovery within a rehabilitation program. Aftercare and inpatient care are an incredibly important part of recovery, but not all programs are equivalent.
Marc McMahon is a recovery expert and has a keen insight in the world of recovery. He has great tips for those in need so lets hear about his insight regarding the path to recovery.
Recovery Treatment Options
You do realize that there is more than one way to recover, don’t you? That there are other programs of recovery than the 12 steps? Alternative means of recovering? You don’t you say, that’s kind of what I figured because I didn’t until about a year and a half ago myself. Other means of recovery that have been working for people too.
You don’t hear about them a whole lot though because there is still this unseen friction between the status quo treatment regime and the new folks bringing in these fresh and revolutionary to the industry alternatives. It would be the equivalent of putting your pet kitty cat in the pen at the dog park to play, awkward to put it mildly.
But every day more and more people know and learn about recovery, and people are finding those methods that work for them when the usual ones didn’t. You cannot argue with results, don’t care who you are, statistical facts prove a point like no other! Gosh, don’t get me started.
My point is, if the traditional treatment programs and their 12 step support programs did not work for you then you have options. You have a lot of different choices to look at. Most plans are of the traditional 30 days, then aftercare, with 12 step support variety. The majority of mainstream advertising is going to be for those types of facilities. If one is not informed, you could fall under the mistaken impression that those are the only options for the average American budget.
The way I see it is you can go about finding these other programs yourself and make a reasonably informed decision. Or you can search for treatment programs like the one here at Landmark Recovery that are open to these new and not so well advertised methods. Not only are they aware of them but they want you to get better with such passion that they are willing to mix and match pieces of a few methods together to create a custom recovery program tailored just to fit your very individual needs.
They care so much about you receiving all the best life has for you to the point that they will create your program of recovery. Program creation is individualized, and that is the beauty compared to these other methods that aren’t always new. Some have been around thousands of years like certain types of Yoga and Taichi.
These other forms of treatment support can be added to your current program at any time if it looks like you need a stronger level of care to conquer your disease. They are very user-friendly and play well together. For example, you could easily incorporate Kundalini Yoga into your outpatient 12 step recovery program. You could add some Music and or Art Therapy to both of those as well, followed up by a 1x a week deep tissue massage to help release the toxins that are trapped deep in your muscle tissue from your drug abuse.
You could add some Music and or Art Therapy to begin to start engaging the senses again and start to exercise the parts of your brain that have been on vacation while you were out using. You know how muscles when you don’t use them for an extended period, begin to atrophy? They start to shrink and start to break down from not being used (exercised.)
The same thing holds true for your brain. Addiction is a physical, mental, and most importantly spiritual malady. You must treat the entire person; you can’t fix some of the problems or even most of the issues and leave even one and expect for recovery to stick. That is one of the fabulous benefits of alternative means of alcohol/drug treatment.
We can fill in the blank spots in peoples recovery programs when the traditional 12 step, group therapy, individual counseling program does not seem to be working for a particular client. Like adding a scoop of Protein Plus to your smoothie after your workout. Like giving your recovery program a shot of steroids so it can heal, grow, and get so strong, it causes this disease to think twice about approaching you with the thought of relapse!
It is ideal to give you the options to strengthen your recovery program so that you can become all that you were created to be; so that you and your recovery can be an inspiration to others. To help you find out who you really are, and help you to explore what might be your meaning and purpose in life. To make you whole and complete again, a rebirth with a fresh start, a clean slate, and a future with endless possibilities. Won’t you join us? The view looks pretty darn good, from this side of the fence. Be blessed my friends and remember ‘We Can Do This!’ Recovery Is Possible!
