For Nevada, alcohol use is generally higher per person than most states in America. In 2019, statistics showed that 92 people were killed from alcohol-impaired driving, representing 30.3% of driving fatalities. There were also 11,170 driving under the influence (DUI) arrests in the state. The alcohol-related death rate in Nevada is 17.1 per 100,000 individuals, much higher than the national average of 12.6 per 100,000 individuals.
More than 14% of Nevada residents between the ages of 12 and 20 have had at least one drink in the last year. In terms of binge drinking in the same age group, 8% of those between 12 and 20 have participated in this harmful practice. More than 10% of adults in the state of Nevada have an alcohol use disorder that would meet the criteria of the disorder according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5TR).
Despite this, only 10.68% of Nevadans need treatment for alcohol use disorder but don’t get the help they need.
