What does the best possible “you” look like?

When it comes to addiction, it’s no secret that abusing substances can devastate your body, enslave your mind, and crush your spirit. For those living with a drug or alcohol addiction in Oklahoma City, Landmark Recovery works tirelessly to help you treat your substance abuse but also to help you build the best version of yourself. Thankfully, there are limitless local resources available to anyone pursuing recovery and healthy living!

Once you’ve experienced what it’s like to feel your best physically, mentally, and spiritually (and free of substances), we believe you will start to see the difference in every area of your life: in your thought life, at work, with your family and friends. It is a ripple effect that starts with you and impacts everything else! Whether you want to continue improving your physical health, mental health, relationships, or achieving personal life goals, it all comes back to you taking care of yourself. No one else can make these choices for you!

To get you started, we’ve put together a list of local resources as you pursue healthy living and a life of recovery in OKC.

For Improving Your Mental Health

What is your mental health, exactly? It involves your thinking, emotions, and behaviors. It also affects how you make choices, relate to other people, and handle stress. Alcohol and drug use impacts all of these things, and — in simple terms — addiction is the relationship between the substances you are abusing and your brain.

For this reason, taking care of your mental health is important for addiction recovery and living your best life. For some, it’s creating healthier thought patterns and coping skills. For others, it’s learning how to navigate life despite family history, trauma, or psychological challenges.

No matter where you are in your understanding of your personal mental health, there are professionals, support groups, and organizations who can come alongside you.

There are also a number of activities – whether educational, creative, or just plain fun! – that contribute to a healthy mindset.

For a Healthier Body

A group of men in a small group therapy session at an addiction treatment center

For those who have been caught up in addiction, neglecting your body is all too familiar to you: forgetting to eat, not eating a healthy diet, or going without food altogether could have been trademarks of your life.

A body that is well-cared for is one that is nourished so that it can function as it was intended. At Landmark Recovery, this is why we are champions of healthy bodies.

While being physically healthy looks different for everyone, across the board healthy bodies need regular exercise, a balanced diet, and appropriate amounts of rest. And thanks to research and technology, we know so much more about the factors that contribute to our physical health and can make decisions based on those factors. In the 21st century, there are also so many more options available for exercise and nutrition, no matter someone’s abilities or dietary restrictions.
