Landmark Recovery of Richmond is proud to offer effective and affordable heroin recovery services to Virginia residents and residents from surrounding states. Our goal is to save as many lives as possible in the next century, starting with you or your loved one. It’s time to live beyond addiction—let us facilitate your walk forward.
Heroin traditionally comes from the poppy, which is a naturally occurring plant found in Europe and Asia. Heroin is normally known as a white or brown powdered drug. The sharing of needles can be a common occurrence in certain heroin-using circles and is strongly discouraged due to high rates of HIV transference.
Heroin can be consumed in multiple different ways. It can be snorted, ingested, injected, or smoked, and can even be combined with other drugs to create hybrids that induce different effects, like “speedball”, which is a mix of cocaine and heroin. “Black tar” heroin is a particularly nasty version that’s very impure and cheap, colored by the inherent impurities.
Synthetic opioid substances can sometimes be present in doses of heroin, unbeknownst to the user. Synthetics like fentanyl can lower the threshold of overdosing significantly, stopping the heart and lungs until the user enters a coma or dies.
In Virginia, only 0.3% of residents above the age of 11 have used heroin in the past year alone. The highest-using population, 18- to 25-year-olds, has a use rate of 0.52% in a single year. Virginia’s use might be relatively low compared to some areas in the US, but anything above zero is a tragedy that can be prevented. The heroin overdose count in Virginia during 2019 was 532, with 852 overdosing from synthetic opioids like fentanyl. Luckily, these numbers are plateauing or otherwise declining in general.
Treatment for illicit drug use disorders across most statistical age groups is around 2.8%, with around 2.5% of additional Virginians needing treatment but not seeking it out. This leaves us with the task of treating all unreached individuals in the state, which we take on as our mission.
Landmark offers multiple treatment paths, including residential and outpatient to fit your level of medical need and lifestyle. We aim to achieve a full recovery, which is why we give several different types of resources to current and past patients both during and after treatment. Therapy and counseling are available to patients to maximize their recovery gains, and a national alumni program is in place for Landmark program graduates.
