If you’re looking for safe and effective rehab services in Virginia, then Landmark Recovery is available to help you get back on your feet. With treatment paths that are designed to be as effective as possible, we want to ensure you can live beyond your addiction moving forward.
Heroin, an opioid drug that comes from the poppy plant, has been around for a long time in some form. Normally a white or brown colored powder can be heated up and turned into a liquid that’s injected directly into the bloodstream. Too much injecting can collapse veins, leading severe addicts to continually destroy their joints and limbs a little bit at a time. Due to needle sharing in heroin-using circles, HIV transmission is a significant risk.
There are many ways to take heroin, including snorting, injecting, ingesting, and smoking. Other forms of heroin exist aside from the traditional powder; cheaper “black tar” heroin is very risky and is called such due to the impurities inherent in these cheaper versions of the substance. Fentanyl or methadone, two synthetic opioids, presents a significant risk to heroin users due to showing up unknowingly in doses, causing a much lower threshold for overdosing due to their incredible power.
In Virginia, only 0.3% of residents above the age of 11 have used heroin in the past year alone. The highest-using population, 18- to 25-year-olds, has a use rate of 0.52% in a single year. Virginia’s use might be relatively low compared to some areas in the US, but anything above zero is a tragedy that can be prevented. The heroin overdose count in Virginia during 2019 was 532, with 852 overdosing from synthetic opioids like fentanyl. Luckily, these numbers are plateauing or otherwise declining in general.
Treatment for illicit drug use disorders across most statistical age groups are around 2.8%, with around 2.5% of additional Virginians needing treatment but not seeking it out. This leaves us with the task of treating all unreached individuals in the state, which we take on as our mission.
For many patients, withdrawal from a drug like heroin can be brutal. Cold sweats, insomnia, and restlessness can be present during withdrawals. During the rehab process, Landmark makes medication-assisted therapy available to patients with severe cases of withdrawal. At our facility, we offer residential and outpatient treatment depending on the level of rehab intensity you need.
By making both therapy and counseling available in different forms, we aim to lessen the chances of relapse and reinforce the recovery lifestyle. We make an extensive alumni program available to graduated patients to maximize the amount of post-treatment recovery resources available to you.
